Comprehensive Umrah Guide for Pakistani Pilgrims

Performing Umrah, the minor pilgrimage, is a deeply spiritual experience for millions of Muslims across Pakistan. Unlike Hajj, which has fixed Islamic calendar dates, Umrah can be performed at any time of the year. In this ultimate guide, Bukhari Travel & Tourism Services outlines the step-by-step rituals, visa rules, and packing essentials to ensure a peaceful and rewarding journey.

1. Spiritual Preparation and Ihram

Your Umrah begins long before you land in Saudi Arabia. It starts with your pure intention (Niyyah) and entering the state of Ihram.

  • For Men: Ihram consists of two unstitched white sheets of cloth. One wraps around the waist (Izar), and the other covers the shoulders (Rida).
  • For Women: Standard clean clothing that covers the entire body except for the face and hands is the Ihram.
  • The Meeqat: For pilgrims traveling directly from Pakistan to Jeddah, the Meeqat is typically crossed on the flight. It is highly recommended to wear your Ihram cloths at the transit airport or before boarding your flight from Peshawar or Islamabad. Declare your Niyyah and begin reciting the Talbiyah:
*"Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka la sharika laka labbayk..."*

2. Arriving in Mecca and Performing Tawaf

Once you arrive in Mecca and check into your hotel, make your wudu and proceed to Masjid al-Haram.

Step-by-Step Tawaf Ritual:

1. Start at Hajar al-Aswad (Black Stone): Point towards the Black Stone, recite *"Bismillah, Allahu Akbar"*, and begin your circumambulation.

2. Seven Rounds: Perform seven counter-clockwise rounds around the Holy Kaaba.

3. Rukn al-Yamani: On reaching the Yemeni corner, recite the recommended supplication:

*"Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan waqina 'adhaban-nar."*

4. Maqam Ibrahim: After completing seven rounds, pray two raka'at behind Maqam Ibrahim (or anywhere in Masjid al-Haram) and drink holy Zamzam water.

3. Performing Sa'ee (Safa and Marwa)

Proceed to the hills of Safa and Marwa to retrace the steps of Sayyidatuna Hajar (AS).

1. Start at Safa hill, face the Kaaba, and make supplications.

2. Walk towards Marwa hill. Men should jog lightly between the green fluorescent lights.

3. Reaching Marwa counts as 1 lap. You will complete a total of 7 laps, finishing at Marwa.

4. Halq or Taqsir (Shaving or Clipping Hair)

The final step to complete your Umrah rituals:

  • Men: Shaving the entire head (Halq) is highly recommended, or cutting hair equally from all sides (Taqsir).
  • Women: Clip a small finger-joint portion of hair.

Once complete, your Ihram restrictions are lifted, and your Umrah is officially complete! May Allah accept your prayers and devotion.
